After trying a variety of public and private high schools and finding them lacking in one respect or another, my wife and I found this school – and have been glad every since. Here we had a curriculum designed to fit our daughter, a highly flexible schedule, a good preparation for college, and all at an unbeatable price. We recommend this school highly. – David D., M.D.

I have two children in high school and one in college, so I have a couple of decades’ experience dealing with schooling. We have used several public schools and we have used a lot of home schooling, before enrolling here. In the pubic schools, even the better ones, there seemed no way to avoid the problems caused by “problems kids.” I also found that it was easy for my children to become lost or off task in the public school environment. Home schooling worked much better for us, but as my children got to high school level, instruction, curriculum planning, and assessment became increasingly difficult and demanding. At this school, I can still supervise my children’s learning, providing guidance and encouragement, but the hard parts are taken care of for me. I think we have found the ideal school. – Janet D.

I have home-schooled my large family for many years; I believe strongly in home schooling and wish more families would do it. What I like about this school is that it allows me to continue home schooling while using some of the services the school provides. I still take an active part in overseeing what my child learns and when, but much of the complicated work – such as course design and assessment – is provided by the school. This school lightens my load considerably, while still allowing me control over my child, his work, and his status as part of the home school community. – Robin S.

This school’s educational strategy isn’t for everyone. It’s only for those parents who want their children to learn self-discipline, to develop an appreciation for democratic government, and to practice independent thinking, not just to acquire core subject matter. On the basis of my daughter’s experience I can give my strongest endorsement. – James L., M.D.

I brag about this school to everyone I talk to. The public schools did little to help my granddaughter, but as soon as I placed her here she started learning and making good grades. I’m glad that I could do something to help her, and especially glad to find out about this school, which has been a blessing. – Betty P.

Thanks for the many benefits we receive from being involved in your school. I particularly like the fact that my son can work at his own pace and can concentrate on just one or two subjects at a time. Your school is unusual, perhaps unique, in its emphasis on learning subject matter rather than just sitting in class or mindlessly pursuing graduation requirements. I like your flexible scheduling and customized curriculum. Many features of your school experience remind me of being at a university, and I think my son will have an advantage in adjusting to college life when he gets there. – Michael C.

For the first time in my life, I don’t have to worry about bad influences at school for my daughter. Her attitude and her willingness to study have become wonderful since enrolling here. We couldn’t be happier. – Phyllis N.

Schools I’ve used in the past have not always had what I call a pleasant environment. I like the fact that I no longer have to be concerned about that. Moreover, I can contact this school any time and as often as I like to check on progress or ask questions. My son has more difficulty than most in getting around in the large, crowded halls of regular schools; now he doesn’t have that problem. On top of that, the price is a bargain and the curriculum is sound. – Diane P.

I’ve received first rate service at this school. The policies are reasonable, the price is low, and I get prompt feedback about how my child is doing. I couldn’t ask for a better educational method. – Shirley S.

Thanks to this school my son is finally getting a quality education that is designed specifically for his educational needs. The relaxed atmosphere along with individualized instruction has been a great asset to him and his learning experiences. We are very fortunate to have a school like this to serve the educational needs of our children. – Patty P., public school employee

I am the fortunate mom of a 16 year old daughter who recently began to view school as challenging but enjoyable, thanks to her enrollment here. She faces no disrespectful teachers, no unclear assignments, and no peers with bad attitudes. Her time is well spent, with no wasted time, jammed lockers, lunch lines, etc. Academic demands are well balanced with overall intellectual, moral, and social development. I am amazed that my daughter, who formerly disliked school, now brags about completing work and earning grades. I knew she could do it; in this unique environment she is finally able to work to her potential. – Karen O.

We have a LOT more, but this page was getting to be longer than most people want to read!

I am experienced with home schooling and with public schools. This school is a good combination of both. I can take longer on subjects that are hard, and not be penalized. And the grading is really fair – if I don’t like my grade, I can work harder and get it improved. At first, I missed not having a lot of kids my age to meet, but I’ve made friends on my own and have all I need. – Camille A.

Enrolling at this school changed my life. For the first time, I had to discipline my use of time and to participate actively in designing and controlling my education. Learning to do this was difficult, but was the most important of the many important things I learned here. I applied to four universities, was accepted to all of them and offered generous financial aid. So I was able to pick the one I preferred, and I know that I will do well there this fall. – Erin O.

Enrolling at this school was one of the best choices I ever made. I was able to complete my diploma and still keep my part-time job. At this school, I could slow down when things were difficult and speed up when the work was easier, so my grades went up and I didn’t waste any time. I scored very high on my college entrance exams and owe a lot to the high school education I got here. – Ashley B.

I’m in college now and doing well. I think the main reason I am doing well in college is because at this high school I learned to work on my own. Independent study is very demanding – you learn very quickly to be responsible and to budget your time. I wouldn’t trade the experience for anything. – Nicole M.

I love the flexibility. One thing I hated about regular schools was the rigid schedule. Also, I find myself more goal oriented at this school. I’m responsible for a lot, so I tend to take things more seriously. And I like being able to slow down when something is hard and speed up when the subject is easier for me. – Justin C.

In other schools I sometimes felt that teachers didn’t respect or appreciate me; that never happens here. At this school, when I work hard, I get finished quicker and have more free time. I am in college now and doing great. I highly recommend this school. – Danielle R.

I graduated from this school and went right into college. Traditional high schools waste a lot of time and have too many rules. I always hated school till I got to this one. Here if I wasted time it was my fault, and I learned to be responsible for my self and my time. I learned that I am an individual, that I am important, and that my goals are important. I’m in college now, making A’s and B’s. In college they expect a lot of independence of you, and my high school experience prepared me for this. I loved the sense of freedom this school gave me, and I am proud of what I learned and how I learned it. – Lindsey D.

The best thing about this school is the flexible scheduling. I can design my studies to fit my schedule instead of someone else’s. And I like the fact that the grading is very fair. I can set my own goals and shoot for whatever grade I want. This is the first school I’ve really liked. – Katie G.

I’m easily distracted. At every school I’ve gone to until this one the socializing of the other kids made it impossible to concentrate. I put in a lot of time at school but got little done; here I put in a little time, but get a lot done. No boring lectures. No teachers who give me work that’s not at my level. I’m doing well and I even hold down a part time job. I don’t know why all schools don’t operate like this one. – Laura H.

I like the fact that I don’t have teachers in my face all day, telling me what to do and everything. I want to learn; I don’t have to be treated like a sheep. I like the fact that the grading is fair, and if I don’t do well on a test, I have a chance to study some more and try again. I like the fact that if a subject is hard, I can take more time with it. And I like the freedom I have to organize my learning my way; I’m not perfect at it, but you have to start taking responsibility sometime. Oh, yes: and no cafeteria food! – Janson J.

At this school my favorite thing is that I can get things done on my schedule instead of the school’s. Sometimes I need this, and when you need it, it is a blessing. Also, I don’t have crowds of people around me all the time, distracting me from work or trying to get me to goof off. It’s harder to organize my own time and get everything done, but I have to learn how sometime. – Lindsey J.

After being outside the public school system for years, I tried our public high school. I had forgotten what the public schools were like. They were absolutely crowded with kids, there were fights, and none of the adults seemed to care about any of this. After a week I left and started here. I still have a lot of friends, but this way of schooling is peaceful and I’m not forced to deal with bad kids and bad teachers. – Ashley L.

As I see it, the advantages of this school are many. For one thing, I don’t have to listen to teachers lecture all day. Regular schools take up ALL DAY with this. I’d rather read my textbook. I also like working on just a couple of subjects at a time. I feel like I am learning more that way and remembering it after I have learned it. Plus, if I get tired of one subject and can switch to another. I also like being free to learn at my own pace. I can take my time on harder things and go quickly through things I already understand. I used to be absent from my regular school for illness frequently; make-ups were awful. Here I just pick up where I left off. Finally, the scheduling is way less stressful and less distracting. I don’t have to rush to be at classes on time, or fight the crowds for the restrooms or cafeteria, or deal with unpleasant kids. I still have a lot of friends; I just don’t rely on school to supply them. – Emily B.

At this school I can go as fast as I like when I’m motivated. And I can take breaks whenever I need them. But mainly, I like that I don’t waste enormous amounts of time listening to lectures I don’t need to hear when I’ve got a good book. I’d recommend this school to any serious student. – Mallory M.

I like working at home, and I get a lot more done. Sitting in class listening to a boring teacher is such a waste of time. I also like that I’m an individual – I’m not swallowed up in a huge bunch of kids. My needs aren’t always just like everyone else’s! – Ashley P.

I’ve been treated badly at every school I have ever attended, either by kids, or by the teachers, or both. At this school none of that ever happens. I don’t hate school anymore. I can get exactly the education I want, when I want it. And the only problems are the ones I create for myself. The grading is fair, the rules are simple, and my education is in my hands. – Ahmad R.

I think there are two things I like about this school. One is I get to be in charge of my own schedule for studying. This is so different from a traditional school, or even most home schools, where you have to study during certain periods of each day, with no flexibility. And I love taking tests online. I can schedule these for when I’m ready and I can take longer if I need extra time. This is so cool! – Rachel R.

I’ve never had trouble making decent grades in school, but apart from that there was no payoff for being a good student. No matter how hard I work or cooperated, I was sentenced to the same seven hour drudgery as the losers in my class who never made any effort at all. At this school, the harder I work the more extra time I have – time to divide between the leisure I’ve earned and the development of my career. This school has required a lot of self-discipline from me, but I can only say that that was in my long-term interest. I recommend this school to any student who is serious about learning. – Patrick C.

In other schools I sometimes felt that teachers didn’t respect or appreciate me; that never happens here. At this school, when I work hard, I get finished quicker and have more free time. I am in college now and doing great. I highly recommend this school. – Don S.

I’ve never cared much for attending schools. They’re boring and the kids are treated like they were in jail. I want an education, but I work and I have a lot of personal interests. This school is the first one that didn’t put a cramp in my life style. Here, I can get things done in a way that fits my needs. If all schools were set up like this one, there would be a whole lot more learning going on and a lot fewer kids would drop out of school. – Stephen W.

If grades and standardized test scores are any indication, I am a very good student. However, after too many years in public schools, I decided I had had enough of having my time wasted, of being treated like a prisoner, of having to socialize with students who refuse to grow up. At this school I could focus my time and arrange my schedule to meet my needs. All schools should be designed like this one. – Brittany W.
